What guys should wear to Grand PalaceTemple tours

I know that this has been bought up a few times but just to reiterate........with guys, if they wear long shorts that go past their knees (with runners and T Shirts etc) is this OK as jeans seem just too hot for November. Thanks

No, it is not. Males should wear long pants, no sandals. I do not remember if this is required, but I would wear a collared shirt (short sleeves ok).

I%26#39;ve just come back from there. You must wear long trousers but sandals and flip flops are ok.

Also if you want to rent one of the taped guides you need to leave a credit card or passport as security.

The Thai people hate to see skin - it is considered not proper when visiting the Grand Palace and even in public places. Can you not wear light cotton pants (not jeans!) and a light cotton shirt with sleeves to at least your elbow or just below? Also, yes you have to wear a full shoe where your heel is covered. Be prepared to take your shoes off before entering any wat. Never sit with your feet facing a buddha or monk. Never touch a monk either.

Here%26#39;s a cool tip...the jewlery museum on the premises is very air conditioned - if you get too hot and you can go in there to cool down. A ticket for the entrance is included with your ticket for the Grand Palace. Cold drinks are also on sale/available while visiting.

This is proper when going to the Grand Palace or any wat.

So let me get this right....guys cannot wear jeans???????

Yes guys can where jeans, however maybe more comfortable in lighter long trousers. Personally as a female I%26#39;ve had no problem wearing long jeans to the Grand Palace, it does get hot but very similar to one of our Qld very hot and humid days (you know the type that build up to a big arvo storm!!) As far as shirts go it doesnt have to have a collar, teeshirts, polos etc are fine.

Cheers

Catherine

Thank you all.

I understand the long pants (or skirt) thing but what I don%26#39;t understand is if you have to take your shoes off, how come no sandals??

We often travel with the zip-off, convertible pants, so I%26#39;m planning to just stuff the bottom half in our backpacks and them zip them back on prior to entering the temples, but in that heat, I know my hubby will want to wear his Tevas. He%26#39;s still wearing his shorts and sandals here at home, and we%26#39;ve lready had a touch of snow! ! (altho the last few days it%26#39;s been in the 60s F)

I think it is because you wear socks.........is this right?

Going from guys to girls........could someone who has recently been tell me exactly what a girl should wear as the information that I have picked is quite sketchy.

went in August...

me (male) wore long tousers, sandals and t shirt - no problems

wife - wore long trousers and long sleeved top

both no worries

jeans are fine
