How does Chaweng compare to Phuket beaches?

We%26#39;re looking at a hotel on southern Chaweng, which we understand is quieter than the middle section. How crowded is it in December? As bad as Patong?

Thanks,

Ray

How does Chaweng compare to Phuket beaches?

This is one who stays away from those ';hotspots'; during peak periods...

but yes... they will both (Patong and Chaweng) be at full capacity at that time. You don%26#39;t tell us in which price range... so a bit hard to reply.

If you find a resort that still has rooms.... you wil find that ';inside'; the walls.. it really dosn%26#39;t matter if it%26#39;s crowded ourside... Places like... Holiday Inn at Patong... Or Amari Palm or the Kandaburi at Northern Chaweng (my personal choices)... are a world away from the maddening crowds....

Southern Chaweng is quieter than the main part of Chaweng %26amp; still close enough if you want to venture in being only a 20 min walk or a short songtaew ride.Once your inside your resort the surrounding noise isn`t really noticeable of course depending on the resort but most are fine in that regard.

Ray what is your budget %26amp; what hotel are you looking at,it`s very hard to find a resort in that area in a high season period that represents good value as oppossed to say a low season period.

Almost as developed it doesn%26#39;t yet have things like the Hard Rock but it does have Mc Donalds and Starbucks. Southern Chaweng will be great and quieter. I stayed almost in the middle no quite at Chaweng Regent and noise was not an issue for us at all. I will say December weather on this side of the mainland is unpredictable and if it is not late December I would personally reconsider the destination as rains during your entire stay would not be suprising. Unlike Phuket Koh Samui is best mid year where Phuket is best in December.

Thanks everyone for your detailed responses. We are looking at Samui Paradise in mid-January. Should we look elsewhere? I really don%26#39;t want a crowded beach. And rain doesn%26#39;t sound great either.

Thanks again,

Ray

Just a word about rain in December.... last year was abnormal... I wouldn%26#39;t be too worried about it.... Not likely to be abnormal weather 2 years in a row. December would normally be fine... and January certainly best time of year.

Samui Paradise looks great. I remember having it on our ';shortlist'; when we went last July... We ended up at the Kandaburi (and loved it)... only because they had a fabulous ';soft opening deal'; at the time.

I must tell you that the Northern end of Chaweng is the quietest and IMO the best part of Chaweng, but not so good if you want to swim in the sea as it鈥檚 fairly shallow.
