Where is the Floating Market?

Please help, I seem to have received conflicting advice re the Floating Market and it%26#39;s location!

Is there just one?

Is it close to central Bangkok? If not how far/long a journey %26amp; is it worth the trip?

Also, is there a best time od the day/week to visit?

Thx

Where is the Floating Market?

We%26#39;ve been to 2,the touristy one at Damnoen Saduak(about 40kms from Bangkok) which if you book a tour involves a coach journey(about 06:30 start) ours stopped at a palm sugar factory on the way then a long tailed boat ride to the market(it%26#39;s been used in films, adverts and a Floyd cooking sketch)You then hire a boat(or not) to gently cruise thro the boats selling everything from tourist tat to melons. On the way back we stopped at a teak carving factory then back to your hotel about lunch time. The other is much nearer to Bangkok,we hired a boat from Taksin pier and spent about three hours cruising the river and klongs(canals)taking in the sights of the temples then to this very small market on the banks of one of the klongs. I really see the 2 trips as different, there may be other ';floating'; markets we%26#39;ve not found yet.

Where is the Floating Market?

Suanlum is correct

Basically 2 floating markets.

One in Bangkok only recently opened and the one outside Bangkok but a little more than 40K.

Leave at 6:30 and get there about 830 canoe ride and then back calling at the tourist places on the way.

alternat take a car and do your own thing, there is a tourist reservoir in the area as well, worth a visit.

Thx for your replies BUT now the big question is which one to go to?? We only have one day spare for shopping/ markets (floating or not); it%26#39;s a Saturday so, I%26#39;m not sure whether to stay closer to BKK %26amp; do the %26#39;weekend market%26#39; %26amp; smaller floating market OR try %26amp; fit in the larger one - Any thoughts?

If it were me I wouldn%26#39;t do the small floating market in Bangkok unless it%26#39;s got better in the 12 months since we were there tho we did it as part of a river trip which included seeing lots of the riverside temples etc which made it a good trip overall.

That is an easy question.

Although the floating market is an experience with only 1 day forget it and stay in Bangkok you will see more.
