floating market - worth it?

is a trip to the floating market worth it or is it again one of those very touristy things? also is river kwai close to the floating market and does it warrant a trip too? sorry for the silly questions but just trying to get our schedule in place and i see that the floating market requires one to leave the hotel very early in the morning hence the concern..

floating market - worth it?

it may well be touristy but it is really great to visit and take a ride on a boat amongst all the sellers - we absolutely loved it and the photos you can take come out so brilliantly.

floating market - worth it?

I agree with Maz1 we loved the floating market at Damnoen Saduak(there are others more for the locals not very interesting) Trouble with the tourisy one is our organised tour stopped on the way there at a palm sugar factory and a teak carving factory on the way back(objective to expose you to all the stuff that%26#39;s for sale and get some sort of rake off from both places) I%26#39;ve heard from other people that they also made similar stops.

yes, much better to take a private tour (we went with Tong) - then you can cut out all the stuff you don%26#39;t want to see-you can even catch a taxi out there if you want.

The floating market is fun if you%26#39;re with someone (I went with Tong also) who can direct you to the good buys, the mosre ';off the beaten path routes'; and the best food (most important!)

It%26#39;s imperative to get there early so as to miss the tourist hordes and be there early enough to get the best photos of the day beginning in the morning light. You%26#39;ll get picked up no later than 6:30 am.

The river kwai is close and if you%26#39;re interested in seeing it, you should add it on to this jaunt. Tong will take you to a great restaurant on the river overlooking the bridge for lunch.

we left at 7.15 and it was fine

Hi Maz... Hi Ellenem...

Could you please refer me to Tong as I too will be in Bangkok in late Dec.

Questions.

1. Is Tong a person or travel agency?

2. What was the price for the trip to the floating market?

3. What was your itinerary like?

Thanks...

hi Notae....

Tong is a person- but I would be so surprised if you%26#39;d be able to book her personally for end december, otherwise she will arrange one of her co-workers if she is not free-

I think we paid roughly 4650 bht for the day - her car holds 6 passengers and it wouldn%26#39;t cost any more or less for 2 or 6 (i think)

pick-up 7.15 (we don%26#39;t like too early a start, like my buffet brekky first)

Floating markets (absolutely loved everything about them)

went to a really gorgeous temple - not on the usual tourist trail

River Kwai - mainly lunch overlooking the river- very yummy (not included in price)

Tiger Temple (entrance fee and photograph fee not included)

back to BKK very tired and exhausted but oh so happy, by about 6pm -

her car was very new, airconditioned and she has lots of drinks and snacks for you to munch on whilst on the drive

The snacks she buys for you on the boat at the floating market are so yummy

hope this helps

Hi Maz! Thanks for the very quick reply.

Would you by any chance still have her contact details? If you do, could you please email her contact detail to at notaeskram@yahoo.com. Would appreciate that very much!

By the way, how long was the journey to the floating market?

Thanks again...

Regards,

notaeS kraM

sent you an e-mail with the details

Thanks a bunch Maz!
