Should we stay on the West or East side of Railey?

Hi -

My husband and I are going to be in Railey in late December and are trying to decide where to stay. We%26#39;ve heard that the west beach is much nicer but there seems to be only 3-4 places to stay on the west beach and they%26#39;re all over 3,700B (don%26#39;t mind paying for nice places but these don%26#39;t seem that great).

Some nice looking places on the hillside above the east beach seem to be priced much lower. Would love to hear opinions if it is worth it to stay on the west side or if it;is ok to stay on the east side and just walk to the west side.

the west beach is where the long tail boats come in from Ao Nang

the east from Krabi .east beach at low tide is mud enough said

but it is such a small area easy to walk from east to west in 2 min. the south or cave beach is the best. Pa nang I think. I stayed in Ao Nang last week took boat to Railey for climbing. If you want good beach%26#39;s have to take boat to Phi Phi or chicken or poda island.

the only way to railey is by long tail boat ,so back pack is best.

For rooms it makes no difference at all. The better beaches are on the west side but once night falls the restaurants are better on the east and on the hill If arriving from Krabi Town or the airport you can take a boat from Ao Nam Mao to the east side instead of Ao Nang to the west side.

Thank you both for the tips! My husband and I really appreicate it! We%26#39;re going to look for a place on the east side and just walk to the west during the day for beach time! By the way - we%26#39;re relatively young (29 and 30) and were wondering if you know of fun things to do on Railey - things to do during the day(esp.what beach is the best), good restarants, bars etc. Anyway, just if you have some favorite spots, we%26#39;d love to get your advice since it seems like there%26#39;s not too much written about Railey in our books! going to railey you have to try rock climbing. enough said ,that is why people go to railey oh and the night life. there are many bars and every day posting on the street as too which bar is having a band or party.. for good beach take long tail boat to one of the nearby islands for the day. on the east side the lifestyle is party all night climb all day.

where have you decided to stay on the east side? im having same dilemma, thought id go to railay bay, but it seems expensive for what it is...going in feb
