john grey sea canoes as seen on Getaway ( Aussie)

Did anyone see Getaway (in Australia) last night with Trisha Broadbridge at Phi Phi. They also had the John Grey Sea Canoes. It looked like fun wondering if anyone has done it before, and can young kids do it.

Kaney, yes I watched it. We are booked to do the John Gray Seacanoe tour in January, there will be 5 kids ranging from 6-13 years old and I asked the same question and forum members who had done this tour said our aged kids would be fine.

John Grey and especially his Hong by Starlight cruise is fantastic. If taking children on this trip you need to be concious of the need for peace and quiet in the lagoons. John Grey arrives when the %26#39;tourists%26#39; leave and it is the peace and tranquility that makes the trip so special.

You also need to be aware to get into the lagoons it is necessary to go through black caves with the roof of the coves sometimes only inches above you. In other caves the ceilings are very high. When I mean black I mean no light at all. Transiting the caves often means lying on your back in the canoes for several minutes at a time.

It is for these reasons that one must ensure that ones children can cope, both with the dark and the need for extended quiet.

If this is not a problem then the family should have a great day.

We just did the Hong by Starlight tour a few days ago. It%26#39;s wonderful and child appropriate. We had a girl, maybe 6 years old, with us. She was well behaved and seemed to really enjoy herself.

The Hongs are amazing--as if you are transported into a secret world. It%26#39;s serene and spiritual and definitely a wonderful experience. I can%26#39;t recommend it enough!

Damm I wish I watched it.

I did sea-canoes with him back in July, highlight of my holiday!!!

Kaney, put ';John Gray'; or ';sea canoes'; in the search words in the top of the forum and you will get back all the fantastic reports on it.

Hi Kaney

They did not shoot much video of the main John Gray boat as they had their own separate boat to do their work from. I was also on the trip as requested by John Gray and Trisha because I help forum members contact or visit the school she started on Phi Phi. We had 10 other forum members from OZ who joined us for the day but the producer of Getaway decided not to mingle with the little people.

Everyone had a great time with John joining us on the main boat for dinner and the rest of the evening while the TV crew excaped back to their Western expence account dinners at their air conditioned hotels. Not a very sea worthy lot for travel documenters and I guess they spend most of their time on dry land.

The kids will love this adventure and in my oppinion it%26#39;s one of the best tours on offer in Phuket which is why I do it myself every couple of months.

Hi Richard,

In regards to visiting the Broadbridge Education Centre, do you need to make an appt beforehand? My partner was good friends with Troy and we were intending on stopping at Phi Phi for a day (no overnight) on our way from Phuket to Phi Phi.... He really wanted to see Troys memorial and also pay a visit to the school...

Should we arrange this through you? Can you let me know the costs involved if we were to do it as a private trip?

Whoops that was meant to say on the way from Phuket to Ko Lanta! haha!!

Hi Wazza Troy

you can watch it on the Getaway website. If you go to Ninemsn and got through the travel section you can watch any of the stories on here!

Cheers

Chelle
