I just read the recent negative review for the Kata Palm Resort and I%26#39;m bummed since we are staying for five nights in February. Has anyone stayed here recently that has anything positive to say? Thanks.

Kata Palm Resort recent negative review - I'm bummed!

Hi there,

We are staying there in September.... haven%26#39;t actually been able to find one bad review, please tell me where you found that one! All the reviews I have read have been great (except one person said the pool was small..... they must have been at a different hotel!) As the previous post said, you have to take into account the price, which is so good!

If you search you will probably find a bad review on every hotel, even the 5 star.

Cheers

Hi mumjo

I think patlynn was referring to the latest review here on trip advisor, click on phuket hotels on the left, I think it was posted a few days ago, we are looking forward to our stay there, i read all reveiws, good and bad and weigh it up.

I like to experience it for myeslf, my hubby and I like 3-4 star hotels, as long as they are clean, have a pool and the staff are pleasant we are usually always happy and we meet like minded people. Our best experiences and memories are of the more low key resorts and mixing with the locals!!

I have to agree with the three previous posters. Go with the trend of reviews. People are so different and have such different expectations that you can%26#39;t really go with just one review.

I have heard/seen people rip apart even Amanpuri - a truly world-class resort - and yet be delighted with little places in the middle of a swamp that I wouldn%26#39;t even go near.

But, it is that variety of review and expectations that gives you the best and most well-rounded overview of a resort. There are often things that would drive me nuts - that don%26#39;t bother anyone else AND things that don%26#39;t bother me at all (construction in the area for example) that sends other people away in droves.

Take it all with a grain of salt - the good AND the bad - and use your own best judgment.

It is interesting to note that the author of the poor review of the resort provided ,as a tip/recommendation: ';Skip Phuket';.

If one considers the glowing (nothing less) reports on Phuket in scores of reviews in TA one can%26#39;t help wondering to what extent his opinion was coloured by what seems to be dislike of Phuket.

I am writing this to support Ted Karma%26#39;s views on evaluating hotel reviews.I think TA reviews are very useful if you make your judgment on the basis of the cumulative opinions of the reviewers.

hi patlynn

8 of us stayed there from 21st oct to 3 nov in the pool access rooms and the only complaint that we all agreed on in the end ...was the closing 2 or 3 days when arriving guests (at 2to3 in the morning)showed no consideration to other guests that were asleep ...by shouting out to each from one balcony to another ,moving bloody furniture around in their rooms and running up and down the veranders much to everyones annoyance ...on two occasions these people were approached and told to keep it down....also the aircon does go off at about 0230 hrs why i dont know?????????????????besides these trivial things ...all i can say is that this resort was probably one of the best that we saw in an area stretching from the kata beach hotel right up to the karon roundabout(as one day we walked that stretch and looked into every hotel,,for future reference)

dont worry and hope you have a great holiday ....it really is a top place

Hi - I can also provide a little feedback on this resort. We stayed at the Novotel in August and checked out Kata Palm for our visit in May 2007 with the kids.

We were taken through the resort by a very helpful staff member and showed a 1 bedroom pool access suite (2 rooms - one with 2 singles, kitchenette, bathroom and main with king and bathroom). The suite was large and immaculate and we were very impressed with the overall resort, facilities and staff.

So much so we returned to Australia and booked 10 nights for a very good rate (ie. $115 per night 2 A / 2 C with breakfast) and all this for a beautiful suite in a lovely smallish boutique resort.

We are quite picky and travel regularly and have what I consider a fairly high standard. I also work in the travel industry so I know a good deal when I see one. Kata Palm rates and facilities were right up there.

The only negative we found was its strange position behind the Club Med, but we figured much of our time would be spent around the pool with direct access from our room or exploring nearby areas with a hire car - so sea views or direct beach access for us was not important. Having said that, a stroll either south to Kata or north to Karon offered beaches, shops, dining and lots more.

Their website is a true indication of the resort and it appearance, so if you go on your holiday with this image in mind... you won%26#39;t be disappointed.
