Food poisoning at Chatuchak

A friend of mine who recently returned from Bangkok suffered from food poisoning which she attributed to the food eaten at Chatuchak weekend market. Has anyone experienced this in the past.. Is it unsafe to eat at the night market too? (suan lum) We have planned a trip to chatuchak market and original plans were to eat at one of the several outlets there... but now am kinda worried. Can anyone recommend some good restaurants in nearby areas?

Thanks in advance..

Food poisoning at Chatuchak

hi,

we%26#39;ve eaten at Suan Lum lots of times and neither of us has ever had a problem,in fact in 9 trips to Bangkok and several to Thai beach resorts I cannot remember either of us being ill, thats not to say we%26#39;ve never had minor inconveniences but over many years of travelling the world on business and holidays my worst ';episodes'; were contracted at a Sheraton hotel in Egypt and a Westin hotel in S Korea. Most small outlets cook to order and usually in full view so I will have no hesitation whatsoever in eating at Suan Lum when we arrive in about 17 days time.

we have also eaten at suan lum market without suffering any ill effects. common sense usually enough to safeguard yourself, don%26#39;t drink the tap water (although i do clean my teeth with it too and advice says not to but hey ho), be careful of buffets make sure food is hot and cooked through etc.

have a great time in a fantastic country wish i was going then but will have to wait for May!

I am trying hard to remember whats close to the market (we were only there in July) I dont recall any restaurants close by..... I%26#39;m quite sure this would have been a one-off for Chatuchak, otherwise the locals would%26#39;nt eat there!!! My wife and I ate with the locals there and enjoyed what we had (a hot spicy chicken and noodle ';soup';) although my wife got a couple of chicken ';claws'; in hers which is shall we say unusual for us Europeans!

We cant go through life worrying about being poisoned otherwise we would never eat anywhere!! My advise would be relax and just go and enjoy your day trip to Chatuchak!

the only time I have ever gotten sick in thailand is when I had a craving for a fried egg sandwich. Bad dressing I think.

I will never eat western food again in Thailand I will always stick with street vendors and local food.

Suan Lum night market has many food outlets from a food hall to restaurants so the choice is HUGE walk round and make your selection. Best choice is IMO at the HUGE food hall, BTY it also has a stage with live band playing all night.

The only time I have had a problem was after eating in a 5* hotel restaurant.

Enjoy your trip and stop worrying

Don%26#39;t worry about eating street food in Thailand. It may not have been the food but perhaps the oil which upset your friends stomach. Permit me to say that I rather eat street food here than in India.

I%26#39;ve worked in India for many years.
