Hotel dilemma..

let me know what all you are going to be doing in bkk and i can advise you on which hotel has the best location for all that.

Hotel dilemma..

Can only comment on the Indra regent Hotel. This hotel is a 3 star place. The rooms are good but not luxurious.

If you like shopping this is the right place, The hotel is surrounded by shops and markets. Very busy outside.

Staff are friendly, nice small pool and good eating places. Down stairs has a coffee place, Macdonalds and 7/11.

Tour desks also at the hotel.

We always stay here because of the shopping.

Hi garyphil,

its ard end of Jan nxt yr...

Hi beezely,

Thanks for the info... i read some articles stating that its hard to fetch a cab outside because of the traffic.. is it true?

Stayed at Pathumwan Princess this time last year and was not all that impressed for the money and considering they call them selves a first class hotel on their website.

Had a deluxe room so it was not like it was the cheapest room in the hotel. The bathrooms were very old and the tap for the bath was so badly placed that the water went on the floor and not into the bath.

Another issue was we had a compulsory gala dinner for Christmas Eve and they gave us vouchers we have the vouchers to the restaurant prior to eating which they lost and tried to charge us for the meal it took a long time for us to convice them that we had vouchers and it was there staff who lost them we actually had to call our travel agent who confirmed we were given vouchers.

Also when checking out it took 40 minutes I am not joking for our bags to be brought to us which made us very anxious as we had left an hour to get to the airport and now only had 20 minutes which realistically is not possible in Bangkok traffic.

Another problem was with the breakfasts as it was peak time for the hotel you had to que for a minimum of 15 minutes to get a table at breakfast even out of peak times. There are very few breakfast tables for the hotel size and all food was pre-maid and just heated before being put out and I don%26#39;t know why they showed the guests them doing this. i.e. they put already cooked hash browns and pancakes from the fridge in the oven to walm up.

There were benefits such as the location being connected to MBK and the MRT with good walking distance to places like Siam Square. The pool was very nice as was the food at the Italian restaurant overlooking the pool minus the voucher issue.

Just to answer your question about taxi:

It is very hard to get taxis at peak hour rush as they are unwilling to sit in traffic that does not move. For that reason you should stick with using the very reliable and clean BTS system. In addition if you venture out to the palace and the leaning buddha make sure you go early and are finished before lunch as you will have lots of trouble getting a taxi to take you back to your hotel as they do not want traffic. We payed double coming home to convice the man to take us and keeping in mind went in air-cond taxi and came back in a tuk tuk.

I haven%26#39;t really had any problems catching cabs outside the Indra Regent . But one tip would be to catch them out on the main road not as you come out of the foyer in the side street. Tuk tuks are everywhere also but they will only want to take you to factories etc. I often use the Hotel Taxis and pay more. They will wait and bring you back if they can.

If in terms of transportation and accessiblity, Pathumwan princess is probably the best of them as they have an exit to the sky train station. But in terms of quality of hotel, Im not too sure.

Hi Carla, Beezely n garyphil,

Thanks for all these info,

rite nw i gt rough estimate of their price per nite based on asiarooms.com:

Any website cheaper than this pl tell mi!!.. thanks

1) Panthuwan Princess - SGD149

2) Grand Diamond - SGD110

3) Baiyoke Sky - SGD88

4) Indra Regent - SGD71

However, i still not sure getting PPrincess as Carla comment quite bad on it.haha.n the price is much steep.

anyone gt info on baiyoke sky n Grand Diamond.. saw a lot of reviews on them but don noe hw true.. hope this forumers can give some valuable comments..

thanks!

adding to your list may just confuse you... anyway:

Majestic Grande.... about 1 year old hotel... and not much more than the ones you are looking at.

Sofitel Silom..... a little worn now... but very nice hotel... best beds in town... excellent service and fine breakfast....

I stayed at Indra Regent 4/11/06 to 10/11/06, had no complaints, breakfast was great, Ming restuarant very nice, as Beezely said catch cabs and tuk tuks on main road, and make sure meter is used otherwise get out and catch the one that pulls up to you as you decline his services.
