a newbie to Bangkok

we are staying in bangkok for 5 nights in May. We wont be at the hotel for 1 night as we are staying on the River Kwai.

Any suggestions as to reasonable hotels? I%26#39;ve done a lot of research but reviews vary so much.

Thanks

Bangkok is such a huge and varied city .I wish when people post hotel questions you give a little of what you are looking for.

Price range. area, activity%26#39;s you like, and even age and lifestyle

if you like. then there are many experts that can help you.

I am frugal ';cheap'; so I only have knowledge of 2 and 3 star hotels.

sorry.. I didnt realise how general i was being.. we are 4 adults early 50%26#39;s.. we are staying in bangkok 1 night, travelling to Kanchanaburi for 1 night then returning to Bangkok for 3 nights before going to Pattaya for 3 weeks ( staying at the Montien there)

This is our first stoppver in Bangkok althought our 3rd trip to pattaya.

We like shopping %26amp; sightseeing but because we arent going to be at the hotel for 1 of the nights, we are looking for something relatively cheap ( say $70 Aud) per couple, where we can leave our large bags etc qwhile we are away for the night.

I was thinking about the Sikumvit area, but will be guided by the experts.

I booked the Bel-Aire Princess for seven nights.

I%26#39;m paying about NZ$80 per night which would be close to your budget. The hotel looks nice and has just been renovated. It is also apparently in a great position - close to the all important Skytrain! (Nana station in Sukhomvit).

I also joined Dusit hotel loyalty card which gives me a heap of extra perks at the hotel.

Just an idea for you!

22 sleeps to go for me! AWESOME! :-D

thanx.. we were considering a serviced apartment the Admiral suites.. but we are open to suggestions.. you can understand that it can be somewhat of a lottery.. reviews are so subjective..
