Hi Ian,
4 more weeks until we visit Ko Chang.
Question.. We are leaving Ko Chang on 30 December to return to Bangkok Marriott for last 4 days.
We can take the flight at 1600 from Trat to Bangkok or take a mini van?
How long will the drive take on a good day from the Siam Bay to the Marriott ...
and how long will the the drive to the Trat airport, wait for flight, flight, and then from the new airport to the Marriott take on a good day?
Which option is less complicated, in your opinion.. and perhaps more enjoyable?
I hope you have guests for your cottage now given the cancellation from your other guests. Wish we had the same dates!
Thanks so much.

flight or mini van from Trat to Bangkok
I%26#39;m in Bangkok now, drove here yesterday from koh Chang - left my house at 9.30am and was in the house in Bangkok at 3pm - including a couple of stops on the way for coffee %26amp; petrol, and I was in apick-up truck so wasnt going too fast. 5 and ahalf hours door to door.
To the Marriott I%26#39;d figure on 6 hours - 6 and a half depending on traffic from walking out the dorr of your resort on koh Chang to walking into reception at the Marriott. If you%26#39;re taking aprivate minivan - rahter than buying a ticket for a shared van, in which case it%26#39;d be far longer.
By plane, you%26#39;ll be picked up at around 12.30pm for the 4pm flight. Arrive in Bangkok before 5pm and then as it%26#39;s ruch hour - you%26#39;ll end up in traffic when you get to the city centre - so allow an hour, but probably 45 minutes. So around 5 and a half hours door to door.
There%26#39;s not a lot to see if you go by road - the scenery is OK but not spectacular. I guess it depends on how much you enjoy hanging around airports compared to keeping moving in the minivan but being able to stop for a snakc whenever you like on the way. There%26#39;s never any traffic jams and the road is quiet from Trat - Bkk.
Providing you have a good, sensible driver then taking a private transfer minivan is fine - the agency I use always gets good feedback from customers,. The drivers are friendly , always keen to teach people a bit of Thai on the journey and they keep to the speed limits.
Cost for a private minivan transfer for 2 people is roughly the sme as flying. More than 2 people and it%26#39;s a lot cheaper.

Hi Ian,
If me and my girl arrive BKK International APT at 15:45 and want to get to koh chang the same night, can you make it happen? What would the cost be for such a favor?
Regards Simon
Hi Simon
It can happen but it means hiring a private speedboat to get you from the mainland to Koh Chang as you wont make it to the mainland piers until after the last ferry has left.
If you%26#39;r arriving at 15:45 it%26#39;ll take around an hour to get through immigration %26amp; get your baggage etc and the last ferries now leave at 20:00. Need to allow 4 hours minimum to get from the airport - ferry pier.
Cost for the private transfer from the airport to the ferry pier will be around 4,800 baht and for the speedboat 3,800 baht including transfer to your hotel.
Very interesting! When did the Ferry%26#39;s operating hours change? Centrepoint as well? Are the rates still the same?
Happy father%26#39;s day!
Centrepoint runs form 6am - 8pm every half hour as of 1 December.
140 baht return or 90 baht single. Vehicles are free.
Koh Chang Ferry is 60 baht one way or 100 baht return . Vehicles are 120 per car one way
